The Orchard Nursery is situated at 29 Inverleith Row, Edinburgh. Our nursery is in a wonderful large Georgian Townhouse which backs onto the Botanic Gardens. There is a large secure garden at the rear of the building. The building itself has been designed to meet all the needs of growing children. We presently also operate the Kirkliston Orchard Nursery in the west outskirts of Edinburgh.
The Orchard Nursery provides full day care for children from birth to 5 years. It is open from 7.00am - 6.00pm, five days a week and closes for 1 week at Christmas and New year.
The staff all hold a qualification or are working towards one (as per the Scottish Social Services Council’s new regulations). The staff continue to undertake various forms of training once qualified, as their professional development is important to us.
The owner of the nurseries, Vicky Coia, has over 20 years experience, a BA in Childhood Practice from Edinburgh University, an SVQ 3 in Childcare and Education and a SVQ 3 and 4 in Management studies.
The aim of the nursery is to provide good quality childcare and education with the emphasis on each child being treated as an individual. We strive to provide the children with a varying curriculum to enhance and develop their emotional, social, physical and intellectual development. We pride ourselves on offering this in a safe, stimulating, happy and caring environment rich in opportunities for all age groups. The nursery offers dance, drama, French, football and music classes for the children.
Our nursery ethos is structured by the Pre-Birth to 3 years philosophies of Respect, Rights of the child, Relationships and Responsive Care as set out by the Scottish Government. For our over 3 year olds we structure their activities around the Curriculum for Excellence and are in partnership with Edinburgh City Council to offer pre-school funded places.
The nursery has a healthy eating policy and we supply a freshly cooked 2course lunch for every child once they are weaned. Every child also receives a healthy morning and afternoon snacks consisting of lots of fruit, vegetables and essential carbohydrates. We ensure all children are given the opportunity for physical activity thus ensuring we promote a healthy lifestyle for all.
